AI Overviews appear for queries where Google thinks a generated summary helps. They are built from the regular Google Search index, so pages are eligible as long as they are indexed and can be shown with a snippet.
Blocking Google-Extended does not remove a page from AI Overviews. The nosnippet and max-snippet controls do limit how a page’s content can be used in them.
