What this AI visibility checker does
More and more people ask AI assistants instead of searching: “what is the best accounting software for freelancers?”, “which hotel should I book in Lisbon?”. If the assistant does not know your brand, or recommends your competitors instead, you lose customers you never see in your analytics. This tool shows you where you stand in three questions:
- What the AI knows about you. We ask the model to describe your brand and to tell us how confident it is. A wrong or empty answer means the sources that describe you are weak or inconsistent.
- Whether it recommends you. We ask two questions a customer would ask about your topic, and check whether your brand appears in each list and in what position.
- Who it recommends instead. The brands that appear where you do not are your real competitors in AI answers, even if they are not the ones you compete with in Google.
The result is an AI visibility score from 0 to 100: up to 40 points for how well the model knows your brand, and up to 30 points for each recommendation list, more the higher you appear.
How AI assistants decide which brands to recommend
Language models learn about brands from the text they are trained on: your own website, but above all what other sites say about you. Brands that appear often, in consistent terms and next to a topic (in reviews, comparisons, lists, forums, news and directories) are the ones a model associates with that topic and recommends. That is why AI visibility depends less on classic ranking factors and more on mentions and on being clearly described.
How to improve your AI visibility
- Describe yourself clearly and consistently. Your homepage, About page and profiles on trusted sites (LinkedIn, Crunchbase, Wikipedia if you qualify, industry directories) should say the same thing about who you are and what you do.
- Earn mentions next to your topic. Get included in comparisons, “best of” lists, reviews and community discussions where your competitors already appear.
- Publish what others cite. Original data, studies and free tools earn mentions that models pick up. Our own research is an example.
- Let AI crawlers read your site. If you block AI search and user bots, assistants cannot cite you. Check it with our AI Bot Checker and consider an llms.txt file.
- Measure over time. AI answers change with every model update. To track your visibility every day across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, use a dedicated tool such as SE Ranking or Nightwatch (affiliate links). We compared all the options in our guide to the best AI visibility tools.
Limitations
This free check asks one OpenAI model, gpt-4.1-nano, and answers come from its training data, not from a live web search. ChatGPT with search, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews can give different answers, and any AI answer varies between runs and users. Treat the score as a quick signal, not as an exact measurement. Results are cached for up to 7 days, and each visitor can run up to 5 checks a day.
Frequently asked questions
What is AI visibility?
How often and how accurately AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity mention and recommend a brand when people ask about its topic.
Why does the AI not know my brand?
Usually because few trusted sites mention it, or because the information about it is inconsistent. New brands also appear only after models are retrained or when assistants search the web.
Is this the same as ranking in Google?
No. Google rankings depend on pages and links; AI recommendations depend on how often and how consistently your brand is mentioned next to a topic across the web. The two are related but not the same.
Is the AI visibility checker free?
Yes. You can run up to 5 checks a day without signing up.
